Nulali is a platform for single parents, particularly, in South Africa.
Single moms often struggle to find affordable, safe housing and feel isolated without a support system. Many rental options are limited, and living in the city can be lonely, especially for expats without nearby family.
Nulali connects single moms with others like themselves to share housing costs and find supportive communities. It offers a platform for building friendships ,sharing resources, organizing childcare, and more. The platform aims to create a village where single moms can thrive together.
Nulali is a website with a variety of different features. Nulali social media platform, a housing resource, a hub for blogs, advice columns, financial resources, and donation opportunities. One of the most critical stages was compartmentalizing and organizing its diverse features. I was tasked to design a layout that not only highlighted each feature but also ensured that the user could easily navigate between them. Its key features include :
The client prioritized a vibrant, purpose-driven color palette, selecting hues essential to Nulali’s brand identity. To ensure a cohesive yet highly scannable interface, I implemented a color-coded compartmentalization strategy, where each core feature was visually distinguished by its dedicated color scheme. This approach not only enhanced wayfinding and information hierarchy but also contributed to a clean, intuitive layout that reduced cognitive load for users.
I designed context-aware layouts tailored to Nulali’s key functionalities. For the housing section, I extended beyond standard pricing and location details, introducing visual indicators such as icons displaying the number of children in a home. This provided users with at-a-glance insights, improving decision-making efficiency. On the members’ page, I implemented interaction-driven tagging, allowing users to filter profiles based on their specific needs—whether for social connection, carpooling, or co-living arrangements. These enhancements ensured information architecture aligned with user intent, improving both accessibility and discoverability.
Given that Nulali’s primary services involved the exchange of sensitive user data, core functionalities were restricted to registered members. However, to maintain engagement and lower friction for new users, I proposed a conversion-focused preview page. This section acted as an onboarding teaser, visually showcasing the platform’s value—such as co-sharing opportunities and community networking—while maintaining a clear call to action for membership sign-ups. By implementing a progressive disclosure strategy, we struck a balance between security and inclusivity, ensuring a seamless entry point for potential users without compromising the safety of existing members.
